Aether WordPress theme

Your licence, updates and moving a site

What the licence screen shows, what happens when a licence ends, how updates arrive, and how to move Aether to another address.

One licence, one site

A licence opens one live site: the first address it is activated on. Development addresses — localhost, *.local, *.test and staging. sub-domains — work with the same key and are not counted, so a staging copy needs nothing extra.

Your licences, their keys and their state are in your licences.

The licence screen

Aether → Licence shows:

LineWhat it tells you
Keythe key in use, partly hidden
TypeLifetime — never expires, or Annual with the date it renews or ended
Sitethe address the licence is tied to
Last checkedwhen digipacket.net last confirmed it

Check now asks digipacket.net straight away — after a renewal, for instance. Use another key replaces the key.

When a licence is not active

With no licence, an expired one, a withdrawn one, or one already in use at another address, your public site shows only a licence message, with the link to buy or renew. Everything else keeps working: your dashboard, the login page, and WooCommerce's payment callbacks, so no order in progress is lost. Search engines are told the pause is temporary.

Note

If digipacket.net cannot be reached — a network problem on either side — your site stays open for seven days after its last answer. A renewal is picked up at the next check, with nothing to do on your side.

An annual licence is announced in your dashboard 30 days and 7 days before it ends, with Renew the licence beside the reminder.

Updates

While the licence is active, a new version of Aether appears in Dashboard → Updates like any other theme's, and installs in one click. Each download is checked against the fingerprint digipacket.net publishes for it before WordPress installs it.

An update replaces Aether's folder. Your settings, pages, menus and everything in the child theme stay as they are — which is why your own CSS and code belong in the child theme.

Move your site to another address

  1. On the old site, open Aether → Licence and click Release this site.
  2. On the new site, enter the same key and click Activate.

If the old site is already gone, release it from your licences instead: Release this site is there too, beside the licence.
